1. What are the differences between the Brux® and a dental guard from a dentist?

The same as the difference between a tailor made suit and a ready to wear suit, as well as the price!
Still, as this is a product that is adapted to fit only your mouth, and which may be re-adjusted many times, not only does it provide a comfortable fit, almost as good as a splint which has been made to measure, but also substantial cost savings.
This is exactly like the gum guards that sports professionals wear.
These can in fact be made to measure but are, in 99% of cases, bought off the shelf in sports shops.
However it must be emphasised that where the wearer has a problem with mandibular articulation or a problem with posture, it is very important to visit a dental specialist and ensure that the splints are produced by reputable companies.

2. When should I use the Brux®?

If you suffer from Bruxism, you can use the Brux® at any time, day or night.
We highly recommend that you wear it each time you feel the jaw (mandibular) muscles clenching; when you take part in any sporting activities that demand a high level of concentration and when you are in any kind of stressful situation or suffer from anxiety.
The key function of the Brux® where it fit between the teeth is to keep your upper and lower teeth apart and cut down the gnashing or grinding movement, and muscle clenching, thereby relaxing the lower jaw and stretching the muscles used for chewing.

3. Is there only "one size fits all" for the Brux®?

Yes, the Brux® adapts perfectly to your mouth, whether large or small and was carefully researched and produced so as to be used safely and securely by both children and adults. Should it be too long to fit comfortably, it is easily shortened using a pair of sharp scissors.

4. How often can the Brux® be moulded to fit?

the Brux® can be remoulded as often as needed, without changing any of its key physical or mechanical characteristics.
Thanks to the material used which uses heat to remould the guard, it can be simply dropped into boiling water and adapted to fit in your mouth.

5. How Long will the Brux® last?

This will depend on a different situations. If the wearer has sharp teeth, or the degree of bruxism is high, then the wearer might be able to bite through the occlusal pads material, or the surfaces could wear down over time.
In normal conditions, with correct use and care, the Brux® can last for years.

6. When should I use the pincers to change the guard?

The pincers provided should be used to place and remove the bite in boiling water. It is a good idea to always have them to hand in case you need to change the form of the bite.

7. Why does the the Brux® move about after adapting the guard to fit my bite?

Sometimes the guard might not be perfectly stable after adjustment. This is generally caused by the morphology of the mouth.
In cases where the mouth and teeth arches are very wide or very narrow, it may be necessary to repeat the adjustment more than once to find the most comfortable fit.
In this case you only need to drop the guard in boiling water for a slightly longer time, (maximum 9 seconds) to make the material softer thereby making adjustment easier. However if by accident you have flattened the bite pad by biting them hard, you can just place the part with the pads in boiling water until they are soft enough to be re-adjusted.
We recommend that while fitting the guard, as you suck in, you press the outer part of the guard against the teeth by pressing lightly with your fingers and apply a light pressure on the guard with your tongue against the incisors for at least one minute.

8. How can I adjust just one part of the Brux®?

In the event that you have inadvertently crushed the wings of the guard, you can simply dip the damaged part into boiling water for a maximum of 15 seconds to soften the material.
Once the wing is soft enough, you can very carefully lift the wall with your finger.
Repeat this until you have returned the flattened point back to its original shape.
Only when you have completed the repair, can you carry out the adjustment again, following the instructions.

9. Does the Brux® cause discomfort while sleeping?

the Brux® doesn't cause any discomfort while you sleep, but will need a short while to get used to the guard.
During the first few nights you may encounter an increase in salivation or a dry mouth.
It may also happen during these first few days, that you find the guard on your pillow when you wake up.
This is nothing to worry about. This may be caused by an involuntary expulsion of the guard during the night, (either by pulling it out with your finger or pushing it out with your tongue).
The main cause for this is that your mind is not used to sleeping with a foreign body in your mouth, but this is a normal phenomenon that will quickly pass after a brief period of getting used to the guard.

10. Can I use the Brux® if I have dentures or braces?

If you use fixed dentures, there is no problem in using the Brux®.
However, if you have removable orthodontic dentures or braces, we recommend that you visit your specialist for advice prior to buying the Brux®.

11. Is the Brux® advisable if I suffer from gum or dental problems?

In the case of very bad gum or tooth problems, we strongly recommend that you seek professional advice from your dentist before buying the Brux®.

12. How do I clean the Brux®?

Keeping your the Brux® clean and germ-free is very important.
Before placing the guard back in its box, remember to clean it thoroughly with a brush and toothpaste, or if necessary use soluble anti-bacterial tablets for dentures.
Alternatively you can drop it into mouthwash solution for about 10 minutes.
Failing to keep the Brux® perfectly clean can lead to the formation of bacteria with resulting oral hygiene risks and a bad odour.

13. Is the Brux® on-allergenic?

the Brux® is made with a special resin that doesn't contain any acrylic or silicone based substances (vinyl, acetate, ethylene EVA), therefore the product is completely non-allergenic and non-toxic.

14. Can the Brux® be used by children?

Yes but only if the child has already developed their permanent teeth, which usually occurs between 12 and 14 years of age.Otherwise, if the child has developed bruxism symptoms, you should consult a dentist.

15. Is it possible to accidentally swallow the Brux®?

No. It is absolutely impossible to accidentally swallow the guard, both because of its shape and its size. Especially during the night, even if you sleep on your back, there is no risk whatsoever.

16. Is the Brux® been widely used and recommended?

the Brux® has been used by 200,000 patients and prescribed by 5,000 dentists as a valid alternative to made to measure bites.

17. Where can I buy the Brux®?

Currently the Brux® is available on-line through simple to use portals.
